National news : Suspected Fulani Herdsmen Kill Former Councilor in Benue State Attack

 

In a tragic incident highlighting the ongoing herdsmen attacks in Benue State, gunmen believed to be Fulani herdsmen have assassinated former councilor Hon. Paul Mbatsaver Azahaan in Guma Local Government Area.

The former politician, who previously served as councilor for Nzorov Council Ward, was fatally attacked late on Saturday night, December 13, 2025, at his home in Tse Azahaan village, Mbagen community.


Eyewitnesses report that the armed assailants raided the residence during the late hours, launching a sudden assault that claimed the life of the grassroots leader.


This latest killing in Benue State has plunged the local community into deep grief and escalated concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Benue rural areas. Residents fear more Fulani herdsmen violence in Nigeria, particularly in vulnerable villages.


Community members remember Hon. Paul Mbatsaver Azahaan as a dedicated local politician deeply connected to his people. They have urged security forces to launch a prompt investigation into the Benue State murder and ensure the culprits face justice.


As of now, the Benue State Police have not released an official comment on the incident, while anxiety mounts over potential additional attacks in the region.


This event adds to the persistent farmer-herder clashes in Benue, underscoring the urgent need for improved security measures in Nigeria's Middle Belt.
