Police in Ogun State uncover remains of a teenage victim.

The Ogun State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of 16-year-old Lawal Wahab, whose dismembered body was discovered several days after he was reported missing.

Wahab, who lived with his grandmother, was declared missing by his father, Lawal Olumide. His decomposing remains were found on July 23 along the Old Express Road in Igbile-Ijebu. In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, described the incident as a deeply troubling case believed to be linked to ritual killing.

According to Odutola, an initial assessment of the body showed that the head, wrists, heart, and genitals had been removed, raising strong suspicion of ritual motives. She confirmed that several arrests had already been made.

“Following reliable intelligence, officers from the Omu-Ijebu Division detained suspects, including 25-year-old Salawu Omikansola, Serefusi Agemo, and others,” she said. One of the arrested individuals reportedly gave a voluntary confession, which was also captured on video.

Because of the condition in which the body was found, Wahab has been buried according to Islamic rites. Odutola added that the case file and evidence are being prepared for transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Eleweran.

She also noted that efforts are underway to track down additional suspects who are currently on the run. The Police Command condemned the killing and assured the public that the perpetrators will be brought to justice. Residents were also urged to remain alert and report any suspicious behavior to the nearest police station.
