Security operatives rescue 13 abducted passengers in Benue
In a coordinated operation, police and local vigilantes rescued 13 passengers kidnapped from a Benue Links bus in Eke, Okpokwu Local Government Area, Benue State. The rescue was confirmed by Adah Inalegwu, the local government chairman, on Sunday, June 29.
Inalegwu reported that the police, supported by vigilantes, conducted extensive searches in the forest, exerting pressure on the kidnappers. On Saturday, two passengers were freed, and with additional support from youths in neighboring Kogi State, the intensified efforts forced the kidnappers to abandon the remaining 11 victims in Oando village around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The chairman credited the success to logistical support from Governor Hyacinth Alia, which enhanced security operations and tracking efforts.
The rescued passengers are currently being processed before reuniting with their families.
The abduction occurred the previous week when suspected bandits ambushed the state-owned bus in Okpokwu, forcing the passengers into the surrounding bush at gunpoint.
