Woman Arrested at Kuje Prison for Attempting to Smuggle Suspected Indian Hemp Hidden in Biscuit Carton
A female visitor, Miss Ijeoma Franca, was intercepted by officers at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Kuje, Abuja, while allegedly trying to smuggle a substance suspected to be Indian hemp into the facility.
The banned substance was cleverly concealed inside a carton of spicy biscuits during a routine search of visitors on Wednesday.
Spokesman of the FCT Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Humphrey Chukwuedo confirmed the incident in a statement, revealing that the suspect claimed she was only helping a man named Daniel deliver the package to his brother, Miracle Amechi, who is currently remanded at Kuje.
“She insisted she had no idea the carton of biscuits contained anything illegal. The package also included rolls of milk, Milo, shirts and ₦2,500 cash,” the statement read.
Ijeoma Franca has now been transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Moral of the story trending online: “When someone with hands and legs sends you on an errand that requires hands and legs, always ask why they can’t go themselves!”
