South African Singer Jennifer Ferguson Accuses Football Chief Danny Jordaan of 1990s Sexual Assault

South African musician and former lawmaker Jennifer Ferguson has publicly alleged that the president of the South African Football Association, Danny Jordaan, sexually assaulted her nearly 23 years ago. She made the claims in a detailed blog post published online.

Ferguson said the incident occurred in a Port Elizabeth hotel in the mid-1990s, shortly after she received an unexpected nomination by the African National Congress (ANC) to serve in South Africa’s first democratic parliament. According to her account, Jordaan came to her hotel suite after she performed at a dinner event.

In the blog post, Ferguson alleged that Jordaan “overpowered” her and assaulted her before leaving without speaking. She wrote that she felt confused and traumatized afterward, adding that she did not report the matter to police at the time because she feared her story would not be believed.

Ferguson explained that she decided to speak out now after being inspired by the global #MeToo movement, which has encouraged survivors of sexual harassment and assault to share their experiences. She said her intention is to encourage others to find the courage to come forward.

Danny Jordaan, a senior ANC member best known for leading the organisation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, has not responded publicly to the allegations.
