Trump Praises Nigeria’s Ebola Response, Says Africa Holds Massive Business Opportunities

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has commended Nigeria for its successful management of the 2014 Ebola outbreak. Speaking at a working lunch with President Muhammadu Buhari and several African leaders during the 72nd United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump highlighted Africa’s growing economic potential and increasing relevance in global markets.

At the meeting—which included leaders from Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Guinea, Namibia, Senegal, Uganda, and South Africa—Trump acknowledged President Alpha Condé for representing the African Union. He noted that African nations are key partners in promoting peace, economic growth, and humanitarian development.

Trump emphasized that Africa is becoming an attractive destination for American investors, noting that many of his business associates were exploring opportunities across the continent.
According to him, “Africa has tremendous business potential… Six of the world’s ten fastest-growing economies are located on the continent.”

He stated that expanding U.S. investment in sectors such as agriculture, energy, transportation, healthcare, tourism, and technology would further improve lives across Africa. Trump also congratulated African leaders for overcoming economic and social challenges, describing their progress as “absolutely incredible.”

On security and global health, Trump assured African nations of America’s continued support in combating terrorism and improving healthcare systems. He praised Uganda’s progress in the fight against HIV/AIDS and applauded Nigeria and Guinea for containing the Ebola outbreak.

Trump reaffirmed the U.S. commitment to working with African governments and the African Union to end conflicts, tackle extremist threats from groups such as Boko Haram, ISIS, al-Shabaab, and al-Qaeda, and respond to humanitarian crises affecting countries like Libya, Mali, Somalia, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic.

Concluding his remarks, he said several African leaders had personally acknowledged the improved U.S. support in recent months, particularly in areas of security cooperation and counterterrorism efforts.
